Sports Massage Therapist

About

I have been practising sports and remedial massage since qualifying at the London School of Sports Massage in 1993 and am also a Member of the Institute of Sport & Remedial Massage (ISRM).  Over the years I have treated a wide range of wide range of clients including professional athletes, children and the elderly.

This type of treatment involves the use of massage, soft tissue manipulation and exercise advice to reduce physical aches and pains, whether they're caused by sport, injury, or simply the stresses of modern life.  It is ideal for postural and occupational problems as well as sporting injuries, performance enhancement, recovery after a hard training session or event, and injury prevention.  It is extremely beneficial after certain operations such as hip or knee replacements.

I have attended many other training courses, seminars and workshops to enhance my knowledge of physical therapy.

Indian Head Massage (Champissage™) includes massage of the shoulders, upper arms, neck, scalp, face, ears and energy balancing.  This method is the brainchild of Narendra Mehta who brought the therapy to the west in the 1970’s.  It is based on the traditional form of Champi (head massage) practised in India for over 1,000 years.  I was taught the techniques by Narendra himself in 1995.

It can provide relief from aches and pains, stress symptoms, insomnia, promote hair growth, soothe, comfort and rebalance your energy flow which gives you a deep sense of peace, calm and tranquillity.  It is a wonderfully relaxing therapy.  The massage is very effective and can be done without oils with the client sitting and fully clothed.

I learnt about the benefits of Aromatherapy many years ago and massage is one of the best ways to enjoy this because you not only receive the healing properties of the oils, but you also get the wonderful benefits of the massage itself. Their therapeutic action, when brought together with the revitalising effects of massage, stimulate all of the organs in the body, plus the skin, muscles, nerves and glands. The increased circulation of the blood and lymph flow also assists with the clearing away of toxins from the body.

I have also worked at a lot of outdoor events – Triathlons, Duathlons, Marathons, Half-Marathons etc.  Two years ago I worked as a masseuse and courier (driving a French minibus) with a group of 18 cyclists across the Pyrenees.
